This architectural wonder began construction in 1990, born out of the architect’s desire to create something entirely her own. However, the journey to complete the house was filled with challenges. There was a time when Dang Viet Nga faced the brink of bankruptcy as banks refused to lend her money. It was during this difficult period that she came up with the idea to sell tickets to tourists visiting the house, ultimately securing the necessary funds. After 18 years and six attempts, she finally obtained ownership of the house and received recognition for it as a piece of art. But her creative spirit does not rest; Dang Viet Nga continues to add more constructions, including a communal house within the existing area.
Unique Architectural Design
The Crazy House, true to its name, is a whimsical and enchanting creation that resembles a mystical tree. Its unconventional design features uneven windows, tunnel-shaped stairways, and twisting organic forms both on the exterior and interior. As you explore the house, you’ll be greeted by cave-like hallways, with surprises like wild mushrooms and spider webs adding to the sense of adventure. Each of the ten themed guest rooms, such as the tiger room, the eagle room, the ant room, and the kangaroo room, is meticulously decorated with handcrafted furniture matching its respective theme. According to Dang Viet Nga, each room carries a symbolic meaning, representing different cultures and nationalities.
Despite being categorized as a hotel, Hang Nga Guesthouse is more commonly considered a “museum” of dreams, childhood, and the extraordinary. Visitors have their own interpretations and experiences, but they all agree on one thing: the guesthouse’s purity and naturalness transport them back to their childhood dreams.
