Location & Terrain
Situated in Tam Nong District, Dong Thap, Tram Chim National Park stretches over seven communes. It is located 35km away from Cao Lanh City, the heart of Dong Thap province. The park stands about 20km northwards of the Mekong River branch and 170km southeast of Ho Chi Minh City.
The park boasts a unique and flat terrain filled with canals. The canal formation has significantly reduced the flood period to six months a year, providing a flood-free period with lower water levels. The water table in Tram Chim can also be controlled through the canal-division of zones.
Biodiversity Values
Covering over 7500 hectares of land, Tram Chim National Park nurtures a diverse ecosystem. It is home to more than 130 types of vegetation, including lotus communities, grasslands, Melaleuca forests, and moldy swamps. The Melaleuca forests, although occupying the largest area, are also home to the highest number of wild rice species (Oryza rufipogon).
The park boasts an impressive fauna system, with over 230 bird species from 49 families, accounting for a quarter of the birds recorded in Vietnam. Visitors can spot rare species such as the great cormorant, Bengal bustard, white-winged duck, gray-footed pelican, black-necked stork, and the extraordinary red-headed crane.

Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Tram Chim National Park is during the water-rising season, which occurs between September and December. Additionally, this season offers exciting activities that reflect the daily life of Westside farmers.
The dry season, from January to June, is also suitable for bird researchers as many birds, especially Sarus cranes, migrate to the park during this time.
How to Get There
Reaching Tram Chim National Park from Ho Chi Minh City is relatively easy, whether by public bus or private vehicle.
By Bus
Several transportation companies, such as Hoang Minh and Tan Quoc Minh, offer direct bus services from Sai Gon to Tram Chim. Buses depart from local bus stations, with prices ranging from 100,000 to 200,000 VND per person. You can book buses to Cao Lanh city and continue on the Thanh Binh route to reach Tram Chim.
By Car
There are two routes you can take by car: N2 – 62 National Road or 01 Highway – 62 NR. Both routes converge at 844 Province Road. After crossing Tram Chim Bridge, the park is located 800m on the left. The average travel time for each route is approximately 3.5 hours, covering an average distance of 143km.
