If you’re seeking tranquility and spiritual solace in Khanh Hoa, Vietnam, then Long Son Pagoda is the ideal destination for you. Originally known as Dang Long Pagoda, this sacred site has a rich history that dates back to 1886. Let’s delve into the captivating tale of this remarkable place and discover the hidden treasures it has to offer.

From Devastation to Resurrection

Long Son Pagoda was first established in 1886 in a different location under the supervision of Thich Ngo Chi, an esteemed abbot from Vinh Xuong, Khanh Hoa. Tragically, in 1900, a catastrophic cyclone wreaked havoc on the temple, forcing it to be relocated to its current site. In 1936, the pagoda was renamed Long Son, becoming the spiritual epicenter of the Buddhist Association in Khanh Hoa Province. However, the temple endured another blow during the Vietnam War in 1968, suffering extensive damage. Since then, multiple reconstruction efforts have taken place, but it is only recently that Long Son Pagoda has been fully restored to its former glory.

A Majestic Oasis

Today, Long Son Pagoda stands as a breathtaking complex of halls, buildings, and gardens. Adjacent to the pagoda is Hai Duc, another sacred site that houses a magnificent concrete statue of Gautama Buddha, towering at an impressive height of 24 meters. This awe-inspiring monument is visible from afar, whether you enter the city via the National Highway or by train.

Architectural Marvels

The entrance and roofs of Long Son Pagoda showcase intricate glass and ceramic tile designs, exquisitely adorned with classical motifs, particularly dragons. These mythical creatures are prevalent throughout the complex, but they take center stage in the main ceremonial hall. To reach the main statue and enjoy a breathtaking vista of Nha Trang, visitors must climb 152 steps from the pagoda’s entrance. At the summit, the city reveals itself as a picturesque painting, captivating all who witness its beauty.
