Back in 1882, after the French army triumphed over Hanoi, the construction of the cathedral began. By 1886, this magnificent structure was completed. Interestingly, the cathedral and the Nha Chung area were built on the land that once housed the Bao Thien pagoda, which dates back to the Ly dynasty.
Adhering to the Gothic style, the cathedral’s design mirrors that of the famed Paris Cathedral. With its 64.5 meters in length and 20.5 meters in width, the cathedral encompasses two bell towers that soar to a height of 31.5 meters.
