Originally named the Louis Finot Museum, the Vietnam History Museum was built in 1926 by the Ecole Française d’Extreme-Orient and completed in 1932. Later, the Vietnamese Government took over the museum, renaming it the Museum of Vietnam History. The doors opened to the public on September 3, 1958.

Despite its modest size of 2,000 square meters, the museum provides a comprehensive overview of Vietnam’s history. The exhibition is thoughtfully organized in chronological order across two floors, spanning ten sections. The collection not only includes objects of Vietnamese origin but also showcases influences from China, Japan, Thailand, and the Champ culture. Particularly noteworthy are the more than 50 stone-engraved artworks from the 7th to 13th centuries.
