Have you ever dreamt of standing on the peak of a mountain, witnessing the breathtaking beauty of Southeast Asia? Mau Son Mountain has the power to captivate anyone fortunate enough to reach its summit. Let me take you on a journey to discover one of nature’s most magnificent creations.

A Rich History
In the past, the only way to conquer Mau Son Mountain was by foot or horseback. During the era of French colonization, this mountain became a cherished destination for the French upper class in Vietnam. They even constructed a military center on its slopes to safeguard the borders of the country. Unfortunately, this displaced the Dao ethnic group, the mountain’s original inhabitants, from their ancestral lands. Only a select few were granted access to the French base, further deepening the divide.

Opening Its Doors to the World
The gates of Mau Son Mountain remained closed to tourists until January 1936 when Dr. O. Pflot, a student of Dr. Alexandre Yersin, arrived to collect medicinal herbs. Driven by the mountain’s captivating beauty, he convinced the French governor to open the region for tourism. Thus, the construction of tourist villas began. It took Dr. Pflot seven years to transform his vision into reality, resulting in the enchanting stone villas that still grace the mountainside today.
